The OCSMP Model Builder – Fundamental exam evaluates the knowledge and competencies necessary to develop a foundational SysML model for a system. The assessment encompasses model concepts and organization, the capture and management of basic requirements, structure and behavior modeling, parametric modeling, allocation relationships, and the application of stereotypes. With the knowledge and skills acquired at this level, combined with proficiency in a compatible SysML modeling tool, a recipient of the OCSMP Model Builder – Fundamental Certification should be able to contribute effectively to modeling tasks undertaken by a Systems Engineering team utilizing a model-based systems engineering approach with SysML. The OCSMP Model Builder – Fundamental Certification serves as a prerequisite for the program's two higher-level certifications and requires the OCSMP Model User Certification as its entry requirement.

This examination (along with others in the OCSMP series) assesses your ability to apply the listed knowledge and skills within the context of a system model. During your preparation, look beyond individual diagrams to understand how the elements modeled in one diagram type can influence or impact those represented in others.

The OCSMP Model Builder – Intermediate exam evaluates the expertise and competencies required to create comprehensive system models utilizing the complete SysML feature set. This proficiency allows for more detailed and accurate modeling of requirements, structure, behavior, and parametric constraints compared to what is covered at the Fundamental level. Furthermore, certified engineers demonstrate the ability to organize complex models, define inter-relationships between model elements and diagrams, and evaluate model quality, including adherence to language and methodological constraints. The level of knowledge tested by this certification, combined with corresponding expertise in model-based systems engineering methods and tools, is suitable for roles such as System Modeling Lead for a project, as well as top-tier team members who contribute independently to the model or system, like a Lead Systems Engineer. The OCSMP Model Builder - Intermediate Certification serves as a prerequisite for the program’s highest certification, OCSMP Model Builder – Advanced, and requires the OCSMP Model Builder – Fundamental certification as its prerequisite.
