Course Outline

The following list provides an overview of the topics that will be addressed in the workshop.

The scope of topics covered is determined by the workshop's duration (i.e., one, two, or three days). For shorter workshops of one or two days, it may not be feasible to cover all topics; consequently, the content will be customized to meet the specific requirements of the participants.

  • Introduction to an initial R session
  • Syntax for analyzing one-dimensional data arrays
  • Syntax for analyzing two-dimensional data arrays
  • Techniques for reading and writing data files
  • Sub-setting data, along with sorting, ranking, and ordering data
  • Merging arrays
  • Concepts of set membership
  • Key statistical functions in R
  • The Normal Distribution, including correlation, probabilities, normality tests, and confidence intervals
  • Ordinary Least Squares Regression
  • T-tests, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Multivariable Analysis of Variance
  • Chi-square tests for categorical variables
  • Writing custom functions in R
  • Developing software (scripts) in R
  • Control structures, such as loops
  • Graphical methods, encompassing scatterplots, bar charts, pie charts, histograms, box plots, and dot charts
  • Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) for R
